Joseph Chen

Joseph Chen spent his formative years in Austin, Texas, and graduated from St. Michael’s Academy. He is a self-taught artist and is currently exploring symbolism related to spirituality and Koi fish. His influences include Asian and Latino life and culture. Chen’s work focuses on two opposing forces, such as life and death and good versus evil. An interesting feature about his work is that some of the imagery is overt, while having an element that is hidden. In the words of the artist, Joseph says, “To me, my paintings are therapeutic, and I would like to express a sense of emergence. Painting is my way of taking notes about life and I believe there is a bigger presence in our lives and hope to convey that.”
